Next year

at Two Writing Teachers!
Those of you who have been reading my blog for a while know that my current position is being cut due to my district's levy failure.  A couple of weeks ago, I found out for sure that I have a job for next year, but I didn't know what that job would be...

... until just a few days ago!  I now know that I'll be teaching high school Spanish next year (no idea what levels yet!) at the high school I graduated from.  It will certainly be a new and exciting experience for me to be in one school for the whole year!  I'm somewhat nervous, as the only time I taught high school was way back in student teaching, and I've never had the same students for an entire year.

The current principal of the school was the assistant principal while I was a student, and I emailed him to let him know that I'm excited for this opportunity.  He made me feel a lot better with his reply:

His enthusiasm is contagious and I really am looking forward to being in his building.  The magnitude of the change is enough to give me a strange feeling in my stomach, and I'll miss my sweet 6th & 7th graders immensely, but hopefully it will turn out to be a really positive experience!  (Besides, it will be amazing to really "belong" to one building for an entire year!)

  1. Congratulations Jennifer. I'm so happy for you, & for your dear husband-no more moving, no more moving! Now you can decorate your room to your heart's content. I know it might be challenging with the beginnings in high school, but what a neat challenge, & a super welcome from your principal. Your enthusiasm for the students always shines through in everything you write about. I know they'll think you're mucho bueno! (Hope I got that right. I do better in French.)

  2. Yeah for you! A home to call your own, you won't know what to do staying in one location and having a permanent classroom. That is so great! I'm excited for you. To go back to your old high school is a bonus. Will you have any students that you've had as 7th and 8th graders? What great news!

    1. oh yes Elsie, I'll have some of my former 6th & 7th grade students again at this school. In fact, I've had some of them since 5th, 4th, and even 3rd grade! (This is mostly great and it's such fun to see them grow up, but the bad thing is that neither they nor I really get a completely "fresh start" with each other!)

  4. Congratulations. I'm so happy for you. And while high schoolers are older--trust me--they aren't that different than 6th and 7th graders! I did both for awhile!
