This Spring Break slice is brought to you by Cathy and Michelle! Their poems looked like so much fun I just had to write one of my own!
It's Spring Break!
If you are looking for me,
I might be
sleeping in far too late
and lounging in my pjs
until erm-hm-hmm in the afternoon.
It's Spring Break!
If you are looking for me,
I might be
chasing levels in a game,
catching up with friends,
or
just
gazing at the sunlight streaming through the window.
It's Spring Break!
If you are looking for me,
I might be
diving deep into a book:
lost in words and worlds
that change me as they wash over me.
It's Spring Break!
If you are looking for me,
I might be
click-clack commenting
on my students' slices,
smiling at the strength of our classroom community.
It's Spring Break!
If you are looking for me,
I might be
drumming fingers on my laptop,
reaching and capturing words,
eyebrows knit as I spin slices to share.
It's Spring Break!
If you are looking for me,
I might be
eating lunch with someone special
(my mom or my husband),
sharing stories and smiles over favorite food.
It's Spring Break!
If you are looking for me,
I might be
thinking but not worrying,
envisioning but not stressing,
refreshing and recharging from this full teacher life.
From both this post and your last one, it sounds like you have a wonderful Spring Break ahead of you! It is certainly well-deserved.
ReplyDeleteI really like the last stanza of this poem. The verb pairs "thinking but not worrying" and "envisioning but not stressing" really stuck out at me. I think they capture the difference between "Spring Break" life and "normal teacher life" really well!
I'm so glad you can get refreshed and recharged this week. :)
So much to do and enjoy during this spring break. I hope you do get refreshed and recharged while doing all that you have listed.
ReplyDeleteI have always loved your love and enthusiasm for writing, especially poetry. And yes, if you are looking for me find me tomorrow at 1 pm having lunch with a beautiful and special daughter and person-- you! Love, Mommy
ReplyDeleteJennifer,
ReplyDeleteLoved your post --- and love spring break!
Isn't it nice to enjoy this:
"or
just
gazing at the sunlight streaming through the window."
and especially this:
"thinking but not worrying,
envisioning but not stressing,
refreshing and recharging from this full teacher life."
Enjoy!
Cathy
Don't you love a great mentor text to play around with? This is a great text to share with your students too! Loved getting lost in the words of a book, click-clack typing comments, but the last stanza says it all. Just loved it!
ReplyDeleteLove it! Happy spring break to you!
